The collective action against Babboe
On behalf of thousands of families, we are holding Accell Group, Babboe's parent company, liable for the damage caused by unsafe cargo bikes.
In February 2024 the NVWA imposed a sales ban on Babboe. Internal investigation revealed that reports of frame breakages had been inadequately followed up for years, while sales simply continued. More than 22,000 cargo bikes were ultimately recalled.
The scheme Babboe subsequently offered covers only part of the actual damage. Loss of value, costs of replacement transport and the uncertainty families lived with for months were left out of consideration.
That is why we are pursuing collective proceedings. One case, on behalf of everyone — restoring the balance of power between individual parents and a large corporation.

Negotiations & Writ of summons
In progressNegotiations with Accell/Babboe did not produce an adequate settlement. Once the writ of summons has been filed, the court will first assess whether the Foundation meets the WAMCA requirements: representativeness, expertise and governance.
Proceedings
To followOn behalf of those affected, we conduct the substantive proceedings. The Foundation can also negotiate an adequate settlement for everyone affected.
Settlement & compensation
To followIf adequate compensation or a settlement is reached, the Foundation will oversee its execution.
Investigation into other brands
Safety complaints about a cargo bike brand?
If we receive multiple reports of defects and doubts about the safety of other cargo bike brands, we investigate them.
We collect reports of safety defects in cargo bikes of all brands. This builds up a picture of where things go wrong and whether a new action is needed.
If you experience safety problems with one of the following parts on another brand of cargo bike, please file a report.
We treat every report confidentially and use the data solely for the investigation into cargo bike safety, in accordance with the GDPR.
